Summer ’87 was bigger than I remember

I’ve been consuming all things RoboCop lately (remake comes out tomorrow!) and among the best articles I’ve read is this piece from Blastr titled “Man vs. Machine: Why 1987’s RoboCop was awesome then, and is iconic now.”

The article mentions the summer box office competition the original film faced more than 25 years ago. I did a little more research and, wow. What a summer for movies.

From May through August, here are some of the flicks released in Summer ’87: Beverly Hills Cop 2, The Untouchables, Harry and the Hendersons, Predator, Spaceballs, Full Metal Jacket, Adventures in Babysitting, Superman IV, The Lost Boys, Masters of the Universe, The Monster Squad, Dirty Dancing!

Not every one of them was a hit, but those are some memorable titles.

RoboCop was released on July 17, 1987. Its main competition that weekend: Jaws: The Revenge.
